Italy Trip – Day 28 – We Say Goodbye to The Grands and Spend The Day In Lucca

Nonni and Poppi were hopping on the train to head back to Venice for their flight back home the next morning. We dropped them off at the train station with many hugs, then returned one of our two rental cars, then wandered around in our beloved Lucca for the day.

It felt like coming home to be back here. One of my favorite memories from the entire trip was when we walked through one of the domed entryways into the Lucca Piazza della Anfiteatro (Amphitheatre) we were all singing our hearts out to Peter Mayer’s Blue Boat Home. It’s the one song we all know all the words to, and when we get on a roll we could sing it over and over.

We played in the park for a good while:

We had some breakfast/snack/lunch at a cafe:

A relaxing lunch at a pizza place by our old apartment, and in the shade of the cathedral:

On the drive home, we stopped for groceries.

On a grocery note:

And I wish we could have brought home our nutella glasses:

I’ve had people ask why the food was so much more delicious there, and it is tough for me to explain. The sheer joy of being together surely colored my perspective, but Buds churned out some stellar meals:

We cannot wait to go back.
