Europe Trip #1 – April 14, 2022 – A Budapest Afternoon
Buds and I headed out to explore Budapest after having had a full morning of CrossFit and time out exploring with Jenny.
The kids were all still happily resting and relaxing, so off we went.
This art installation next to the Danube, in front of Parliament, no words…bronze shoes of all styles and sizes. It was gut wrenching.
We wandered all over on both sides of the river. Jenny and Brendan live on the Buda side, and we made our way over to Pest to see things from the other side. Eventually we picked out an Indian restaurant for lunch, and it turned out to be one of J and B’s favorites, too. We sat outside and watched the world walk by.
I was intrigued by the description of the Szabo Ervin Library and we couldn’t manage to find our way out of the regular-looking public library space into the mansion library section.
Atlas Obscura tried to warn us. “While it can be a confusing process to find the Central Library in the maze-like modern section of the library, once you do, all that is left is to pick out a beautiful old book, sink back into a deep leather chair, surrounded by the soft light of chandeliers, and relax like a 19th century Hungarian aristocrat.”
I wanted to relax like an aristocrat, but we could only find this:
Exploring the city was a delight.
Eventually we made our way back up the many, many flights of stairs to home in preparation for nighttime outings.
Some of our group went off for delicious traditional Hungarian type food while Jenny, Aidan, Yessa, and I headed to 101 Bistro for gorgeous Asian food with lots of vegan options.
Then we met up on the walls overlooking the river to see the beauty at night.
It was another wonderful, wonderful day.
