Without new glasses yet, I continue to put off long, involved posts, but I didn’t want the year to begin without a note.
There will be a longer post about our New Year’s Eve later, but there was a special memory I wanted to quickly note.
Buds and I were asleep by 9:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve Night. The children stayed up and must have toasted in the new year with the sparkling drinks I had gotten for us, as evidenced by the kitchen table this morning.
Hours after we had gone to bed, Yessa knocked on the bedroom door and tiptoed in.
“Mama, it’s ten minutes until midnight. Would you like to get up or go back to sleep?”
“Go back to sleep, but thank you for checking with me.”
“You are welcome. Happy New Year. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
I snuggled back into my nest, next to Buds, happy and secure, knowing the children were keeping watch. And smiling as I thought about the years when I was the one asking that question of the children.
Happy New Year.
