The Buster Ages Up
The birthday was spread over several days.
Actually, it was spread over several months because my mom mailed his birthday gifts to us over a month ago.
Then, I lost the box.
All that organizing I did while Mom was here…that was an attempt to find the box before I had to tell her I had lost it.
It didn’t work.
So, lost one box of presents. Replaced that with new presents.
Celebrated with love on the actual day of birth, then celebrated again when Favorite Cousin stayed over night on the weekend.
This year’s cake was a tribute to a monster from Monster Hunter 4.
Haven’t heard of it?
You haven’t seen The Buster lately.
Here’s where he explains who the character is, and various silliness ensues.
First, The Buster and I had an outing to the grocery store. We looked at ice cream cakes, store decorated cake options, then we stood in the boxed cake section. His decision: He wanted a homemade cake, decorated by the home team.
Then we purchased the sustenance for a long weekend of feasting.
Yessa and I made the cake using The Pioneer Woman recipe we’ve had much success with over the years. This was our best one yet. It was moist and delicious. Even I loved it!
Then, Buster stepped in for the initial frosting.
I asked him to put on the headband to protect the cake and his hair. After he put it on, he looked at himself in the mirror, raised his arms in victory and shouted, “We’re going to Yogurt Mountain every day!!”
For those who don’t know, we have a deal that every 10 times he gets referred to as a girl, we all go to Yogurt Mountain for a treat.
After the crumb coat, Monkey stepped in to start the next round of work.
Monkey and Buds went to Michaels to purchase all the fondant colors and pearlescent powder and any other coatings and edibles they thought might be useful.
Buster told them what he wanted it to look like, and they got to it.
Happy birthday, Dearest Buster.
