Quarterfinals Final Outcome
In Buddie's age category of 55-59 year old males, 2100 men earned the right to compete in the quarterfinals based upon the scores they earned in the Open. That included 3 men from our CrossFit. Two of those 3 men chose to compete in quarterfinals. The third one chose to take a 3-week trip to Italy. (Hope you are having a great time, Jon!)
Out of those potential 2100 men, approximately 800 chose to move on to quarterfinals. Maybe lots of people had planned trips to Italy.
Of those 800, 300 will have the option of competing in the semi-finals, and the top 30 competitors from the semis will be offered the opportunity to compete in the CrossFit Games; the Olympics of CrossFit.
Buddie's final ranking our of the 800 quarterfinals' competitors brought him to...
385 out of 800!!
A fantastic score and yet not so enticingly close to the top 300 as to be heartbreaking.
There were 2 of the workouts Buds could have considered redoing, but in looking at the scores, even if he had, they wouldn't have made that much of a difference.
Here's the scoreboard of people around where Buds finished. It's a lot of data that's confusing if you aren't a CrossFitter, but the important column to look at is the "Points" column. Buds ended up with 1614 points. The person who snagged the final spot to move on to semi-finals in slot 300 had 1380 points, so Buds would have had to make up 234 points to burpee his way into the top 300. That's a lot of burpees.

The picture below shows the top spot crowd. As you can see, Randy Lowe only has 5 points since he placed 1st in 3 workouts and 2nd in 1. Way to go, Randy! Randy was second in the 2025 CrossFit Games, so he may have some goals this year.

Buds came through uninjured, healthy after his recent illness, and having pushed himself while supporting his fellow athletes. That's a huge victory. In addition, he's back to regular workouts today, which tells me he didn't overwhelm his body to the near breaking point.
We're building lifetime fitness. Sounds like winning to me.
