26.2 Complete!

26.2 Complete!
26.2 laid out in all its glory.

Again due to his cold, Buds missed working out with a group on Friday night and waited until Monday morning to give his body more time to recover. This time our friend Matt was also doing the workout, so that helped a little. Due to the age bracketing, Buds got a gift by only having to do a 35# dumbbell instead of the typical 50# from regular workouts, and with his lungs still compromised, that was a blessing.

It all began with 80 feet of lunges with the dumbbell overhead.

The dumbbell snatches were light, again because he's so used to doing the 50# DB.

Light might be an exaggeration, but the snatches gave him no trouble.

The pull-ups and the chest-to-bar pull-ups also strung together nicely.

The goal was to get to the tie-breaker time at the end of the final round of snatches. Buds hadn't ever done ring muscle-ups, and that was going to be the case for a lot of the other men in his age bracket, so he wanted to get to them as quickly as possible to move up the leader board.

He finished all the work except the muscle-ups in 10:50, which was faster than the goal he told me on the way to the gym of 11:00 minutes. That gave him 2 minutes to rest before trying out the rings for the muscle-ups ahead of the 15 minute time cap. He got some good swings in, but they'll have to happen another day.

There are many parts to the whole process.

Here's our friend stringing together a couple, to give you an idea of what they look like.

Considering Buddie's diminished lung capacity and that he hasn't gotten to workout consistently in the last two weeks, I was so proud of him for even attempting the rings.

For 26.1 he finished at the 64th percentile.

For 26.2 he clocked in at the 77th percentile.

That puts him at the 73rd percentile across the 2 workouts. The goal is to finish in the top 25% to move on to the quarter-finals. We're assuming the last workout has to have a barbell, which is where my buddie really shines. Plus, a couple more days of good healing before the 3rd and final workout is announced on Thursday afternoon.

Fingers crossed.

Raise your hand if you want a heavy barbell in the last workout!
