Microwave Repair
A couple weeks ago our microwave started sparking when being used. Not only startling, it also all made a burning smell, which was even more concerning. Concerning even to me, someone who has started several fires inside their toaster oven.
I called an appliance repair shop and was told that microwaves are so inexpensive I should just toss that one and buy a new one. It would cost more than a new one to have them repair it.
I wasn't a fan of that answer, but didn't think I had options.
I posted the microwave on a free group on Facebook to see if anyone might want to try and repair it or use it for parts, and one kind person said that she had the same issue and she explained how someone else had told her to repair it. It was the purchase of a simple part and could easily be repaired by us at home.
Seemed worth a shot.
The culprit was a burnt out spot pointed out in the picture above. This what the piece looked like when we removed it.
Seven dollars and I was the owner of 4 new mica sheets. Cut to the exact shape of the previous burnt out piece and screw back in.
Such a simple fix, but without the grace of a stranger, we might not have discovered it.
Microwave working great and gratitude for shared knowledge high.
