CrossFit Open: 23.2

CrossFit Open: 23.2

This one was a two-parter, and Buds was thrilled when he saw it.

He detailed the early returns in his post here, but now we have the full report since scores have been posted, though not necessarily all verified.

We’ve also got fun pictures thanks to friends who were snapping away.

Friday morning I did the WOD with Buds by my side so he could get a feel for how things would go when he did it officially that night. These photos were taken by Coach Kaley.

The race is on.

I love these three photos above for a couple reasons.

Buds wasn’t really lifting hard here. This was a warm-up for the magic that was to happen that night.

This also shows the magic that is CrossFit. Everything can be scaled, and though my weight of 65# is tiny compared to the 100’s of pounds Buddie is putting up, I’m working just as hard, possibly even harder in this instance.

Finally, he is equally as proud of my numbers as I am of his. That says a lot about how we operate as a team.

Then came Friday night. Friday night was amazing.

Coach Kaley and our friend M took these photos.

Buddie pullups:

Buddie running:

Then Buddie lifting his heart out. This first set is early photos of warm-up lifts. He had 5 minutes to set as high of a weight as he could. He had a plan, and I had a piece of paper in my pocket with his expected plan on it. The clock on the wall is counting from 15:00 up to 20:00.

In the second photo you can see me rolling into action to get more weight on the bar while he rests.

His second to last lift:

Finally, the last lift of the night. He had to have the bar in motion before the clock got to 20:00. He’s got 247# on the bar, a personal record. You can see my arm lifting on the side of the photo, sending him all my power, too.

It was sooo good.

As I write this on Monday night, Buds 247# in the thruster part of 23.2 has him tied for 19th in the WORLD. This is in his age category of 50-54 year old men. Approx. 7500 men turned in a score for this workout.

Best of all, it was a personal best for him, and he’s worked so hard to peak at just the right moment for the open. I can’t wait to see what 23.3 brings.
