Europe Trip #1 – April 17, 2022 – San Michele Agritourismo and Taorimina

We got into Catania airport very late at night and it took a very long time to get both the rental cars, but everyone kept up their good spirits and eventually we were weaving our way around dark Sicilian roads.

The agritourismo office was dark when we finally arrived (It took me 3 tries to get up the very steep driveway because I kept killing the manual car we rented.), but Jenny found people in the restaurant and rousted one to come let us in our rooms. We truly thought we were going to have to bunk down in the cars for a bit of time, so we were very happy to see our gorgeous rooms.

The next morning we were up and ready to enjoy our breakfast and the beauty of the area.

Today we learned that a yolkless egg is also called a “fart egg.”
You are welcome.

Stopped to take a few pictures in this beautiful setting.

I love to see him laugh.

Our house on the hill in the background.

Hanging out.

Kids wanted to relax after our late night, so the adults decided we wanted to explore Taormina.

Brendan very generously agreed to be our chauffeur for the 45 minute drive. I was even more grateful when we drove into the parking garage because it was the narrowest spiral driveway we had ever seen. And he had to drive up multiple levels to find a spot. He handled it like a champ, and it was nerve wracking!

We wandered around town, bought a pair of shoes for Monkey, and chose a beautiful restaurant for a delicious lunch.

And there was gelato from a very suggestive nude photos on the walls gelateria. We called it the “Gelateria of Dong,” but that wasn’t the official name. 😆😆😆

That night we had our first dinner at the agritourismo and it was delicious. They did a great job having options for Yessa and me, and so many choices for everyone.

Shaved cauliflower with balsamic vinegar and walnuts.

After drinking bottles of red and white house wine at dinner, we headed back up the hill to our home away from home to plan out our excursion up Mount Etna the next day.

I was texting with the tour planner for the Mount Etna tour and who knew that tour planning could be so hilarious.

We collapsed into bed, ready for a long night of sleep and another day of adventure.
