Lightning Trip to Virginia
The time had come to move the office in Reston over to a new location in Tysons. We combined that less-than-fun task with the very fun opportunity of going out for our holiday dinner with the Reston team.
In more good news-bad news, Kelly, Paula, and the girls were out of town, so we didn’t get to see them, which we hated. We did get to have dinner with Mia, Chris, H and C, which was wonderful since it is such a busy time of year.
And in the final good news-bad news theme: Packing up and moving the Reston office proved to be quite easy thanks to all the prep work Aunt A and Uncle Z did at Thanksgiving (It was not emotionally easy, but the physical piece was cake.), but I did manage to get the van stuck in Kelly and Paula’s front yard. Doofus moment to end 2013.
As always, the kids were amazing on the twelve-hour drives. It felt so good to be home, and Paula and Kelly’s house is our home-away-from home in Virginia, so that felt very comfortable, too. I apparently hadn’t explained to The Buster that they wouldn’t be there when we were visiting because he was so filled with sorrow when he realized we weren’t going to see them. All of us were so sorry to not spend time with them, but he had the added sorrow of being shocked by the news. A little bit of a parenting fail there somewhere, although I swear I did tell everyone ahead of time.
The Reston office was a much-appreciated space, and the many hours of ping-pong, hard-work, and togetherness will be missed. I especially enjoyed my one day a week in the office with Djam, Meghna, and Zach. Having that one day where I was allowed to fully use my adult brain was such a blessing.
Some picture memories:
At Mia and Chris’:
We ate at Matchbox in Merrifield, which was a big hit. Not too crowded, and we could actually hear each other, which was a problem in previous years.
One of the reasons Buster was so sad was because he and Kate always have such fun playing on the Wii together. He missed her company very much.
The trip was a productive and fun, yet tiring way to end 2013. We were glad to be home for New Year’s, but I’m looking forward to finding a time to see all the beloved Virginians sometime soon.
