Chatting With Strangers-Wrestling Version
Buddie's mom found his corduroy State Championship wrestling jacket and brought it along to give back to him when we all gathered at Mount Snow in December. The jacket now fits me, so I've been wearing it when the weather is a little warmer.
I've had two fun interactions when wearing the jacket, and they've made me smile.
First, I learned that one of our coaches at CrossFit (R.J., for those of you who know the coaches.) was also a state champion. R.J. still has his jacket from his senior year in high school when his football team won a state championship. That's pretty cool.
The second instance was when Monkey and I were waiting to go back for her appointment with her job coach. Another man was waiting with his son to be called back for their meeting, and he and I were chatting about wrestling. He, too, had been a state champion, and he shared that his love of wrestling continued past college. He was a professional wrestler for 10 years.
Monkey got called back for her meeting right at that moment, but I so wanted to understand what professional wrestler meant in this context. Wrestling, preparing for the Olympics? Or wrestling with a metal chair flying at your head wrestling? Either one would have fascinating stories.
It's too cold to wear the jacket right now, but I'm looking forward to seeing what stories it will invite the next time I take it out for a spin.
