Christmas Undecorating 2026

Christmas Undecorating 2026

With approximately 15 blog posts to write to be up to date, I am working in reverse order to keep the memories I have of the more recent events.

Yesterday was the undecorating day for the family, and we tried to make it interesting and fun. Or at least I made it fun for me by taking time lapse of the activities.

I love how our tree looked this year, so it was tough to see it go.

Star gets the top this year. Angel will go atop next year.

First we had to begin by taking our holiday picture since we didn't get around to that before the end of the year. This year we switched to individual sweaters rather than matching pajamas for 2 reasons: 1) Buds has never really embraced our "matching pajamas" tradition, and 2) we all have a lot of pajamas after all these years. Buds didn't want a sweater this year, either, plus Monkey recently received a shipment of beautiful new dresses she has been waiting patiently for for weeks, so Buster, Yessa, and I wore our sweaters while Monkey dressed up fancy and Buds dressed all in black as a Johnny Cash tribute.

Looking over these pictures, I realized again the power of being the main blog poster writer. The picture above is the best picture of the whole family, but the worst of me. (I mean, I am still cute as bug, but that isn't my best shot.) This is my favorite of me:

I was still recovering from a bizarre foot incident, so I parked myself on the couch while everyone else zoomed to the attic to bring down the boxes and bins for packing everything up.

Monkey and I took down the front room tree while everyone else toted the repacked bins back up the attic. Monkey had set up this tree on her own, and the tree did not want to go back to the attic, as you can see by our difficulty tugging it apart.

As is always the case, you think you've gotten all the decorations, only to realize you've missed several items.

We had to bring in the tallest family member to get the links from the ceiling.

Yessa also indulged in a favorite childhood memory of dipping her fingers in my Christmas wax melter candle. This wax melter is one my brother and sister-in-law gifted me decades ago, and when it was lost, Monkey bought me a replacement this year, so this tradition remains.

We've promised the crew a trip to Barnes and Noble as a wrap-up the "Undecorating Celebration," and we agreed to do that on a different night.

It's great to have the house reset to its non-decorated mode, and the family room and front room feel open and airy, but I do miss the trees.

Some of the previous pajama pants in evidence. 😉
