Second Monkey Post-Surgical Appointment Done

Second Monkey Post-Surgical Appointment Done
We had an outing last night

Monkey has completed the second of three planned appointments at the plastic surgeon's office. The PA said she continues to heal well and as of this week, all restrictions are lifted. She can swim, lift weights, move and sleep as she feels comfortable.

The steri-strips were removed and she just has two little spots that need to finish healing completely. She's begun putting vitamin E oil on the incisions, lightly massaging to break down scar tissue, and once the final spots are healed, she's got silicone scar tape to apply which aids in avoiding keloid scars.

Best news of all, she's got full sensation returning everywhere. She's been getting the unpleasant, startling zings that occur with nerve healing. She's also having some discomfort as she returns to wearing regular clothes which can feel too restrictive, but it's slowly getting better.

If you appreciate medical specifics, Monkey found a really fascinating video that shows how breast reduction is done, using a play dough model. We were all intrigued to learn the nipples are rotated 90°! Who knew?!?! I'm posting the link to the video below, but I'll warn you, it's unsettling, even though it is only playdough. And Monkey found it in Reddit, so I'm not sure everyone will be able to see it if you don't have a Reddit account.

Still the best line of this whole process was when Monkey's surgeon explained that putting everything back together was like "origami."

She's feeling good, looking good, and remains so glad she made this choice. Only one more appointment planned at the three -month point. She'll meet with the surgeon one final time for post-measurements and photos and to be sure she's happy with how things look and feel. That final step will be cause for celebration.
