The Drop Off At Bing

The Drop Off At Bing

I was determined to make this a joyful event, at least as far as my own emotions went. We packed up the van on Tuesday night. We were picking up the rental car at 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning; the goal was to head out by 9 a.m. The plan went smoothly, other than the only time I could get in to see my doctor about my suspected stress fracture (see previous medical update post) was at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday. So, Buds dropped me at the airport to get the car, I went to the doctor while he drove home to get everyone moving and the final items loaded into the van.

Yessa drove the van and Buds rode with her while Monkey, Buster, and I piled into the rental car.

Ready to roll!
Packed and stacked. Yessa's items in the back, Buster toward the front.

Because both kids were attending the Transfer Summit which went from 4 p.m. on Thursday until after dinner on Friday, they got to move in early on Wednesday.

Yessa had the move-in time from 12-2, Buster from 2-4. We lucked out and found 2 parking spots right by Yessa's building, and she and Buds headed in to get her keys and see the room while the rest of us began loading up the cart we had brought from home.

We got right to work moving her items in and wiping down the room to begin unpacking.

Her roommate did not move in until Saturday, so we didn't have to feel rushed about everything being perfect, or making room for another family.

After a couple hours, Yessa was in a great place, so Buds and I left her and Monkey to keep going and we drove with Buster to get his keys and see his new apartment.

Buster also hit the room jackpot with a "super single" meaning he has a full size bed, plus he's also on a corner, so windows on two sides!

HUGE!!

Buster had less stuff, but also got tired of us more quickly, so we got him mostly settled, then headed back to see Yessa's progress.

Yessa was in a great place, too, so off we went to Target for the items that would add another layer of comfort to their lives.

Packed in back just like trips of old.
A personal favorite

We would make two trips to Target over the two days we were getting the kids settled.

Buster quickly realized he wanted a big umbrella for his walks up and down the hills to campus. It rains a lot at Bing.

We split up for a delicious dinner. Yessa and I for Thai/sushi. The rest of the crowd tried for burgers, but ended up with delicious chicken, rice, ice cream at a convenience store/restaurant. Buds talked about his meal for days.

Everyone saw both rooms and we all cheered for the good work accomplished that day.

On Thursday the kids were available until 4 p.m., so Buds got some work in, then Monkey got some sleep while Buds and I went to campus to meet up with Buster and Yessa. We walked to find their classes, explored campus, and soaked up the final hours with these loved ones.

French classroom

Yessa and I stumbled across a fun study area that was the furniture from the former campus pub.

They both needed to do laundry, and we made the delightful discovery that laundry here is free!

Buds and I ran over to check out from the hotel, then we all met at one of the dining halls for a final lunch together before we drove home.

Saying good bye was hard, but now, a couple weeks in, I can say they are both doing great.

More stories to come. 💖💖
