Monkey Tries Out Jobs

Monkey has tried for a long time to get a job, but hasn't had success, so she has added a new approach recently. Two approaches, in fact.
Buddie's mom used to write a family newsletter called News Gems that she snail mailed out to all of us, plus her family in Wisconsin. (The subscription list may have been longer. I don't have the actual data.) She's a clever, funny writer, would often have guest writers, and created a fantastic family historical record. She hired Monkey to digitize this important family archive, and Monkey has been doing a superb job with that.

In addition, through a job support program the state of New York offers, Monkey spent 16 hours this week working at our local BJ's warehouse, with the support of a job coach. In her words on the first day:

Once she's recovered from surgery, we'll meet with the job services folks to gather ideas on what jobs would be possible options. The purpose of this "internship" was for her to get experience seeing what type of work will work with her sensory and physical needs. This definitely had to be an easy week for her job coach since once she knew what needed to be done, she unleashed the full brain power and organized the heck out of that store while he stayed out of her way.
These have both been great experiences for her. I'm so grateful Buddie's mom offered her this opportunity. She's loving learning the family lore. And I'm so proud of Monkey who keeps moving forward, recognizing and self-advocating for what she needs while still hanging onto the special parts of her creativity and brilliance.
