Spring Break-Iowa Edition-2025-Day 5

We had hopes of having lunch with my niece Marci, but she woke up not feeling well, so Babs and I adjusted our plans. A relaxed morning for Buds and me with a workout/walk, then Mom and I drove to Newton to visit Cash and Dad.

You can see the little heart on the bench. That's a lovely gift Teresa found that takes you through the QR code to a site that tells about Cash. We tucked in some flowers to tell the sweet boy we loved him, and enjoyed some time remembering him and noticing the beauty of the space.

Lunch at Taco John's was our next stop. Taco John's is a chain that is a funny mix of Midwestican food. I do not know of any other Mexican restaurants where you can purchase "potato ole's," which are round tater tots.

After we were refreshed, we headed out to visit Dad's plot.

In related cemetery updates, I emailed Sunset Memorial to see how much it would cost to have David's stone raised, and I was surprised and gratified when they answered immediately to tell me they would get it raised and leveled within the next ten days for no cost. And thank you for bringing it to their attention. I have no idea how cemetery maintenance works, but that was a delightful outcome.

On our drive home we stopped at the shop to see Alisha and Cruz. What a delight that was. There had been discussion of dinner out with their family and George and Kathy, but with George's hospital stay, I was glad to get any time with them we could. Little George was out working, so we didn't get to see him.

Cruz is making the jump to full size sprint cars this racing season, and it was fun to quiz him about that process.

Fun facts were learning about the injection molding process that's used to form the safety seat that is specific to Cruz's body, and that mini-sprint cars max speed was 80 mph, but the new car will go up to 140. Also, some tracks he won't be able to race on until he turns 16, so this year's schedule is a little lighter. It's also lighter because in previous years he raced both wing and non-wing mini sprints, and now he'll just have one car to drive.

Another day passes in Iowa with family and love.
