Spring Break-Iowa Edition-2025-Day 1

Spring Break-Iowa Edition-2025-Day 1

The original plan was the five humans and one dog would spend Spring Break on a trip to Iowa. When The Buster developed Covid the week leading up to the trip, we had to adjust our plans. Instead, he would stay home to heal from his cough and care for the cats, while the rest of us drove the 14 hours to visit Babs.

We headed out at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday. Yessa took the first shift, Monkey snuggled in the front seat to protect her from car sickness and to keep her as far from the dog's dander as possible.

Getting underway.

It was a foggy morning that stayed foggy for a long time. Even after Yessa drove for hours and I took over so she could get school work written, it was like driving in a haze.

The drive itself was easy. Monkey tried to sleep while the rest of us chattered, and Mocha loved being settled in the back on her bed.

A couple rest and gas station stops, and a longer stop in Iowa City to buy some groceries at the Trader Joe's there, then we were in Altoona. I dropped off the crowd at the house, then ran over to get Mom for a quick visit and dinner.

We had time to eat and one round of "A Gentle Rain" before I was disappearing into the couch as a puddle of exhaustion. Buds ran Babs back home, and our first day of Spring Break was complete.

We miss you, Buster.
