NYC 2025-Day 4

NYC 2025-Day 4
Sunset from the Brooklyn Bridge

No sign of Harold this morning, but Buds and I had a quiet start to the day, heading out to Bee Public coffee house for some coffee and food. We took computers, books, and A Gentle Rain along since we planned to work there for a couple hours.

All the food they offered was vegan, so I got to enjoy avocado toast with egg, bacon, and feta cheese on it. It was delightful.

That's "egg" crumbled on top.

This was a neighborhood cafe where people and their dogs were coming and going all morning.

This sweet spaniel kept wagging his tail whenever people were talking.

We started out at a table and then moved to a couch with a coffee table after we were through eating. After working for a couple hours, we got in a round of Rain, and placed all the flowers.

When we tired of the hustle of the coffee shop, we retired to our apartment to read and write some more.

Buds does a good job in this angle not showing you any of the surprises waiting in this 3rd floor walk-up. Post about the space to follow soon.

For lunch we walked to a grocery store/deli to pick up some fresh food.

Buddie had a hoagie.
Salad with all the veggies for me.

Once we were well fed, the afternoon plan clicked into place. We knew we wanted to walk over one of the bridges into Manhattan. Our two options were the Brooklyn Bridge or the Manhattan Overpass Bridge.

After a little research and learning that the Manhattan Bridge is much louder, our choice was easy. Brooklyn Bridge it was.

It was a little gray when we set out, but not too windy until we were up above the river. Our big puffy coats were a blessing today. It was a gorgeous day to be out for a walk.

That's where we are headed.
It's a stunning piece of engineering, architecture, and art.
Even the screens to stop people from climbing up the cables are interesting.

Once we reached Manhattan, the main goal was to find a public restroom, then make our way to Chinatown to try some dumplings.

Thank God for the government of New York City that put together this google maps overlay showing all the public restrooms. We found perfectly useable, toilet paper supplied, running water, and lockable doors restrooms for our use in Columbus Park.

What the overlay looks like.
The bag on the left was hanging on that door, but the stall was empty. This town fascinates me. What story does this bag have to tell me?

Bathroom issue addressed, Buds found a highly rated dim sum place for us to try. There was a line, but only because you order from the sidewalk. One woman taking the orders. One or two people in the back cooking up the food as it's ordered. It comes out so steaming hot you have time to walk to the park to eat it.

We had so much left over that we were able to give meals to two gentlemen on park benches near us.

Bolstered by delicious food and a little time sitting, we decided to head home walking back across the bridge, not taking the subway as we had discussed when planning the day. In our wandering to get back to the bridge, we also walked past Pace University where one of our nephews attends. He doesn't start back until after we leave the city, but I like having a visual of the school.

The walk back was warmer and sunnier, which made for some fun pictures.

See that graffiti under the crane? How in the world?!?!

A stop at Devoción for a nighttime coffee, then home to eat our lunch leftovers. We're settled into bed, reading and writing, ready for an early night and another day of adventure.

We've got tickets to see Moulin Rouge tomorrow night. Much to look forward to.
