NYC 2025-1st Night
A leisurely dinner at Inday, an Indian restaurant was the start of our night out. Even on a Friday night when it was hopping, they seated us right away, albeit at a tiny 2-person table squeezed between 2 other sets of diners with the same seating arrangement. It was a boisterous, joyful atmosphere, which my extrovert side appreciated, but my connecting-to-Buds side found less entrancing. We had to really lean in to hear each other, which, no matter what Sheryl Sandberg encourages, is not relaxing. We still chatted and laughed, but once the food showed up, none of that mattered.
Buds had the charred chicken chili salad.
Buds was in heaven over the crisp freshness of his salad, plus the decadent richness of the creamy coconut ranch.
I was equally happy with the rich pindi chole.
After listening to Buds say multiple times, "This is soo good," it was okay that I couldn't hear so well in the bouncy restaurant space. 😉
We had tickets for the 8 p.m. show at the Williamsburg Comedy Club, and we didn't want to get there too early for fear of being seated too close to the front. Arriving at 7:55 p.m., the kind gentleman said, "Let me get you some good seats, guys. Right this way."
Buds and I were silently praying, "not the front row, not the front row!" and he led us to...the seat right behind the front row, and no one was seated in the front row.
The 90 minute show was an interesting mix; 6 different comedians, each given just 10 minutes to test our material and make us laugh. We found something to laugh at from each of them, and I fell asleep last night writing my own stand-up set in my head. For example, they do need to enhance the acoustics at the comedy club. When a joke didn't land, it was so quiet, I wish I had a pin.
I'll keep workshopping.
There was a 2 drink minimum for each person, so we got to try out some fun cock- and mock-tails. Buds had an espresso martini that was truly delicious. I'd never had a martini, so it was fun to sip his.
Buzzing from laughter, we walked the 3 blocks back to the Pod. We've been laughing because we gloat about the 13-minute driving to everything life we live in Rochester, but we've not gone more than 3 blocks from our Pod for planned events and meals here.
More adventures to come...
