NYC 2025-Day 1

NYC 2025-Day 1
Heart hands from Buds.

It feels odd to post a difficult update about Mom, and then jump right into talking about the great time Buds and I are having in New York City. But I talk to Mom at least once a day, and I know she likes reading the blog posts. This is how life works. People we love are going through rough things; they do not expect us to stop living with joy; they just want to know we haven't forgotten them.

So, Babs, I haven't forgotten you, aaaannnndddd, Buds and I have had a fun day.

The train ride from The ROC to Penn Station clocked in right at 7 hours. Luckily, the temperature dropped to a comfortable 72 degrees inside the train car so we didn't perspire the whole way.

We had plenty of projects to work on, reading to do, and the towns and landscapes we passed through were beautiful.

Fascinating house, icy water.

Once the train arrived at Penn Station, Buds had our path all plotted out to our first hotel for the trip. We took two subway trains, timed perfectly so that the trains were waiting as we came down the stairs, and pulled out shortly after we got on.

For the first couple days, we're staying at a Pod Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's a great location, inexpensive for NYC, and the reviews were good. It is accurate to say the room is tiny, but since we do not plan to be in here much, it works well for us.

After we tossed our bags into the room and hung up our coats, we jogged off for the 5 minute walk for lunch at Nan Xiang Express. They are known for their soup dumplings, but we both chose noodles.

We made our way to the Google store for a quick purchase after our delicious lunch, then headed back to the pod to add a layer of clothing before heading out for another walk around the neighborhood. This walk took us down by the waterfront to Domino Park.

This whole area has been revitalized, and on a warmer day, or if properly attired, we would have wandered here for hours.

I do not know how anyone affords living in NYC, unless you are truly rich.

The rent stabilized apartments start at $2832, and that's 50% off market rates!

We love walking around looking at the beautiful spaces and character-rich architecture.

A stop for coffee at Devoción to warm us up for the rest of the walk back home:

A gorgeous space and a fantastic cup of coffee.

We're back at the room to write and plan for tomorrow. Shortly we're headed out to Indian food for dinner, and then to a comedy club.

I do not even recognize us!
