Monkey Makes Art

One of the glories of the kids' time in college has been watching them explore interests or potential interests. Buster's piano class, Yessa's time in a commercial-type kitchen, and this semester, Monkey's art class.

She had six projects she worked on throughout the semester. She had a conference with her professor last Monday to wrap up the semester. He gave her some lovely, supportive feedback, and sent her on her way to enjoy the holidays.

I'm not sure which art piece went with each project, except I do know her professor said he had never had anyone use a doll for the collage project.

This is what she started out looking like.
This is how she looked after Monkey recreated her. That's Monkey's hair from her last big haircut.

The butterfly below was magic for a variety of reasons.

Monkey had started this project at school, but then left it there. As she worked at home the weekend before the projects were due, she decided to see what she could create, and it was rich, and textured, and perfect.

The colors and the veining are glorious.
This is a recreation of a preschool project Monkey's teachers helped her create. Her feet and hands have grown a little since then.

Monkey struggles with the tension I assume most creative people do. The image in the imagination is very difficult to recreate outside of the imagination. She had to push hard to create projects that were close to what she envisioned, while also accepting that perfection is never quite in reach.

We were so proud of the way she stretched and grew.
