It's time to talk about saddle time
Get out there.

'Tis the time of year to talk saddles and saddle-sores. How has 2024 been for our biking adventures?

What happened this year? There were a few dozen treks back and forth to Crossfit with Buster and Moxie. I went on two epic century rides that left my legs and butt numb. Ginnie and I also set a couples record with an over 50 mile canalside run. We sampled the bike infrastructure in Spain and saw continued improvement at home in Rochester.

We experienced a chaotic summer, so never really put together the car-free weeks that we enjoyed in 2023. We're hoping to get back to it in 2025.

Knocking firmly on wood, it feels like safety has improved. The first year had a few mis-steps and close calls. We continue to improve on both our skills, routing and anticipation.

Here's our total mileage by year.

Year Family Miles
2022 1,186
2023 1,452
2024 1,251

The breakouts by person are:

Name Bike Model Start Miles End Miles Total Miles Notes
Monkey Black Lectric 311 345 34
Buster Blue Blix 733 818 85
Moxie Black Juiced Scorpion 380 465 85
Gin Black Radrunner 2 857 886 29 Sold in the spring for $1000
Gin White Lectric XPedition 14 384 370 Purchased in the spring for $1400
Buds Sportscar Yellow CrossCurrent X 356 1024 648

We sold one and bought one, upgrading Ginnie to a proper cargo bike and as importantly, hydraulic brakes.

That smile

We put all the bikes, except my yellow Juicer, away for winter this weekend. Gin and I had plans for upgrading our clothing for winter-proof rides, but with her broken wrist, she'll be stationary biking for the next few months.

Despite the bumps in the bike path, what remains constant is every single ride leaves us glad to be out and feeling more connected with our community. We'll be glad when spring rolls around and the bikes are rolling, too.

Finally, here's the bike summary for 2023 (Another Year on the Pedals) and 2022 (The Year of Magical Pedaling)
