Yessa turns 18!

Yessa turns 18!

We've got a home filled with 5 legal adults now.

Yessa chose a day filled with family, outings, and fun for her birthday.

We jump-started the day with a sunrise beginning. Four humans and one doggo walked up to the reservoir nearby to see the beautiful beginning to the day. Since Yessa was born at 3 a.m., we probably saw the sunrise on that day, too.

On the long walk home, down a street we do not normally traverse, we saw this clever pumpkin.

Note the witches' hats for eyes and the upside down cat as the mouth of the pumpkin on the left.

At home we prepared the chosen breakfast for the birthday girl: pancakes and scrambled eggs.

Yessa, Buds, and I have been watching our way through "Agatha" on the Disney channel, so we got in a few episodes while we enjoyed breakfast.

Wherever there are cozy snuggles, there you will find Mocha.

After this, four of us headed for "Color Me Mine" the local version of the pottery painting we did so many times in Nashville. This local business was smaller, and hopping with a youngster's birthday party, but the staff was great and we liked how they structured the painting experience.

Buster had a lot of school work this weekend, so he declined joining us for these first events of the birthday day, but there was no way he was missing the birthday lunch at Maru Izakaya, our favorite local sushi restaurant.

While we waited for the food to be delivered to the table, Yessa and I popped over to the bakery in the same building that had several vegan options for cupcakes.

Cookies and creme, lemon-raspberry, chocolate truffle, Boston Creme, Apple pie, and carrot cake

After a delightful dinner, and a bit of hanging out...

So many giggles.

We walked to our favorite bookstore, The Uninformed Narrator, which is right by our favorite restaurant.

Yessa used birthday money to buy books, and she and Buster hunted up presents for the two cousins that share the same birthdate with Yessa.

After we had our fill of books, it was home to enjoy the cupcakes.

The late afternoon held more shows, making of the home-made raspberry lemon birthday cupcakes, and preparation of our birthday dinner fit for our 18 year old.

Raspberry filling going in.
Filled and frosted.

We enjoyed a vegan dinner of Yessa's selection.

I was damn proud of this ham. It was delicious.
Sweet potatoes and sautéed green beans rounded out the meal.

Singing and candle-blowing-out are always a delight.

She had a stack of presents to open as Christmas jazz played in the background.

Books, a puzzle, and art. Just as the week she was born, this kiddo continues to bring joy and light to our life.

Happy Birthday, Yessa. You are eternally loved.
