Hidden History
Post our morning workout, we headed out for a walking tour of Park Avenue. Park is a glorious shaded street stuffed with miscellaneous retail and on-the-street eateries. It's as close to a lively European street experience as we've seen in our country.
Our host was a local history buff and an art director at a local design studio. The tour was a great big loop that totaled a little over three miles.
The stories that captured us most were Park Ave's history as a backlot of sorts for the glamorous estates on East Avenue and the hidden history of two local streets (Vick Park A and Vick Park B) that were once the front and back straightaway of a horse racetrack.
Here's a gallery of some of the pleasures.
All the walking built up a powerful hunger. We swung by Calabresella's on Park, a New York style deli to get a veggie sandwich packed with pickled this-and-thats bound together with tangy mayo. Also an Italian meatwich.
And our final reward was laying about on the porch discussing Cacoons, Evo, Japan plans, college plans, "when you're ready" and when, whether and why to take statistics.
