Spain 2024-Day 18-Toledo
We bounced out of bed at 5:15 for the walk in the dark to the train station, and a last jaunt through the park that greets you when you arrive in Córdoba.
Good bye Córdoba.
We had a little less than 2 hours in Madrid until our train to Toledo. Buds found a delightful cafe right by the train station and I was grateful for the healthy food.
After we ate, Buds found us a park to walk through, and as we walked around it the area felt so familiar.
"Isn't the Prado near here?"
It was, which meant Retiro Park was only a long city block away.
Using the attitude gifted to us by my brother, if you are that close, you don't miss your chance to see something cool. Buds didn't get to wander Retiro Park with me last time because it was closed, but I hoped we would both get a chance to see the Crystal Palace and the black swans.
There they were!
After enjoying the beauty of this massive green space, we headed back to the Atocha train station to board our train. We visited with a mom and son who had flown over a couple days ago from California. Their flight included an emergency landing in Montreal, accompanied by the smell of burning plastic, but they landed safely and have been enjoying the rest of their trip.
The train ride from Madrid to Toledo is only 30'ish minutes so our timing was ideal for getting into our apartment and then heading out to find food.
The Toledo train station is beautiful.
We quickly realized Toledo is an ancient walled city...on a hill. Because if you are going to build a city for defensive capabilities, of course you build on the hill.
We found our apartment easily and got settled in. After our trip to the grocery store, we made food and relaxed at home for the rest of the night. We were so thrilled to have a kitchen and the whole home all to ourselves.
It's going to be a good last couple days.
