Ashes and Ashes, Dust and Dust
The last few days before our return were full of fire, near and far, unnoticed and unignorable. First, a pair of houses a street over from us burned down. This happened just as the Z’s were going to bed and they slept through it. Impressive powers of rest considering that it was a three alarm fire. Fortunately, the only injuries were a minor burn on one of the firefighters fighting the blaze.
At about the same time, lighting started dozens of fires in Quebec. A quirk of jetstream wound up sending that smoke straight down our snouts here in Rochester. Eventually the whole East Coast wound up with orange skies and choking air quality, at least for a few days. Here’s what it looked like early (credit: XSharkonmyheadX)
This wasn’t missed by the crew at home. The air quality descended to Victorian London levels and the dog walks grew short.
Expect more on how the last few weeks went on the home front soon.
