Aveiro Day 9 - Europe 2023

Aveiro Day 9 - Europe 2023

It was our last day with the hidden gem finders before they headed back to Lisbon for their flight home. We had time for some of my favorite thing; sitting and having deep, interesting conversation, and also some shopping and sightseeing and laughing.

We walked into a new part of town for morning coffee. I asked them all to turn and walk toward me for a picture because I’m always last and we only need so many pictures of their butts. 😁

Notice the cheeky grin on that kiddo and also the intricate tile patterns. 💖
Morning coffee
Simple seating in a beautiful place.
The jacarandas are almost done blooming, so this was a beautiful surprise.
We tried to capture it in a family photo, but not much luck.

Buddie’s started a new project of tile photography, so I’ve started a new project of Buddie taking tile photo photos.

We walked to tour the Salt Flats, with some fun stops along the way.

Bob went for a swim.
Group photo on the canal.

This would have been a great place to have a tour because I had so many questions. They had these signboards throughout, which helped, but still a lot to understand.

You walk right down through the salty pits.
Taking a break from the sun.

Thanks to touring the salt flats, we now know this is a statue in tribute to the salt workers/rakers.

After our tour, back for a little shopping.

The swings in this store were a hit.

We headed out for one last meal of this trip together.

Z wanted another famous Portuguese hot dog sandwich, and we found a restaurant that had a vegan version of the Francesinha sandwich, so Yessa and I would have a chance to try one.

Wouldn’t need to eat it again, but interesting to try.

The duo had one last gift to buy. After that success, we hung out at our house for one of my favorite moments of the trip so far. Buds and Z talking about their lives is always a fascinating, complicated joy to me.

And then it was time for them to head to the train station.

One last family photo
Off they go.

The tenor of the trip will be different now. They brought an energy and enthusiasm that added joy to the whole trip. They also have a great talent for finding hidden gems. We’ll miss their company.
