Giving Thanks
The original plan was for Yessa to spend the week with Kel, Paula, Kate, and Bets in Virginia while the rest of us went to Vermont to see Buddie’s family there for Thanksgiving.
Yessa had American Sign Language class on Monday morning of this week, and we planned to leave right after class. Kel would meet us in Harrisburg, PA for the kiddo hand-off.
On Thursday night of the week before we were to leave, Waffles presented with a hard lump on his right cheek. Buds and I are of the “let’s see if it self-corrects” school of action, but when Waffles was looking slightly puffier with his right eye down to an almost slit, I started working the phones on Friday morning to try and find somewhere he could be seen. A Friday evening visit to the Urgent Care vet clinic found Yessa and I driving him home knowing we were dealing with an abscessed tooth that would need to be extracted, antiobiotics to be given twice/day, and pain medicine to be given once/day.
New plans had to be drafted.
Buds would take on Waffles duty while I drove Yessa to PA. I would stay home on Waffles duty while Buds and the big kids went to Vermont.
Yessa handoff went well.
Kel has sent me some photos of Yessa all settled in.
This morning when Buds and the two eldest were packing up for the Vermont excursion, Monkey fully realized that the research paper she needed to turn in the rough draft of today was not going to be effectively written in the van on the way to Vermont so the difficult decision was made to stay home to complete that work.
Buds and Buster had a smooth drive to Vermont with the beautiful charcuterie tray Buds was very excited to have ordered to take with them from a local business we really love.
I got to chauffeur Waffles to another vet appointment on the back of the bike.
He goes back tomorrow to have the outside of the cheek lanced and the infection drained and cleaned out from the outside, then in early January he’ll go back for the full dental surgery. I really liked the new office and vet that Yessa picked for the cats here. The vet was very glad for me to call Yessa to have her in on the conversation and to answer any questions we had. And it is a 3 minute bike ride to get there.
The rest of my day has been spent diving into projects and cleaning and organizing.
Not the Thanksgiving we were planning, but a great one in its own way.
