Whispering Pines

Whispering Pines

Buster and Yessa can now say that they have played mini-golf on “the oldest mini-golf course in the United States.”

We’ve gotten connected with a local homeschool group, and the teens gathered for a couple hours of mini-golf while the moms sat around and visited. Stellar day for me, and it turned out great for the teens, too.

Buster refused to believe that Parkside Whispering Pines Miniature Golf was the oldest in the U.S. until he had confirmed it from multiple sources, but it is true!

We also learned there was a “mini-golf boom” in the 1930’s.

It was great way to spend an afternoon. And another item to add to our list of fun things to do when folks visit.

Here’s the write up on the Whispering Pines page because it is a delight:

“Opened in 1930, Parkside’s Whispering Pines Miniature Golf is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the oldest miniature golf course in the United States. Owned and operated by The Papas brothers, Whispering Pines Miniature Golf is located next door and was renovated in 2012. The miniature golf is a seasonal operation and is open throughout the spring, summer, and fall. The course was built from fossil stone purchased from out west during the Miniature Golf boom. The course has a very unique design, which has entertained generations for decades.”

Can confirm, we were entertained.
