All Cracked Up

All Cracked Up

We hadn’t gotten any eggs for several days and I had assumed it was due to the chickens molting.

Mystery solved today.

One of the ladies discovered the nice, cozy space under the upside down wheelbarrow in the herb garden.

She had built a lovely little nest under there, and there were 5 eggs. 😳

I felt truly sorry for her that she wants so hormonally to hatch some eggs and it’s never going to happen.

This also explains why she has tried to sleep perched on the back of the couch on the deck though. We thought she was just getting caught by surprise by the shorter days. (Chickens can’t see in the dark, so once it’s dark, they hunker down where they are.)

She just wanted to be closer to her potential babies.

When we chose to have children, I knew I’d need to be emotionally available for them, but now I’m feeling guilty and empathizing with a chicken.

That seems like a little much.

😂

We’ll see if she tries to find other hiding places.
