Lights, camera, ...
Years ago I really liked making videos with iMovie. Sadly, Apple morphed iMovie into an automated abomination and it doesn’t have the control I’d like.
DaVinci Resolve caught my attention and I wanted to learn it to fill a creativity hole. It’s free; I love a deal! It’s professional-grade; I am professional-grade. It’s free.
This is the result.
There’s lots of flaws in this video; but it was fun to make. There was a hard deadline of Sunday and I fell in bed exhausted on Saturday night with this glitchy first try in the books. Video replacement was able to fix most of the glitches
Some learnings:
* Have a plan; a storyboard on Saturday morning helped tame the chaos. I had a great big pile of b-roll video taken around the church the last few weeks that I could just sort through.
* It pays to start with good quality pictures and videos. I did my best with my phone and Osmo Pocket; but both have focus issues I’ll have to learn to deal with.
* Stabilization is not magic. Most of the clips in the video are stabilized but I didn’t find a setting that doesn’t cause unnecessary tree sway.
Next up, Todd and I are doing some mini-challenges, little six-second videos on the themes of Screens, Time and Still-Life. Stay tuned.
