Brain Fahrt
Today is the day of the day trip to Bremen.
We got out of the house at 8:15 in time to make our train. The train is an uncharacteristic 10 minutes late but we’re aboard and seated. It’s just over an hour and 20 minutes to get to Bremen and there are so many cool things to do there.
Until the text.
The owner of our apartment is letting us know he’s going to be in Hamburg at 11 to help us check out.
Oh Sheisse!
Ginnie said, “We don’t leave until tomorrow, right?”
And as Buddie is confirming that definitely our train to Berlin is tomorrow, Ginnie’s brain is processing the August 2 date that is on the confirmation for the end of Hamburg and the beginning of Berlin.
It’s true, of course. We miscalculated our departure from Hamburg by a day.
A quick facepalm and we are off that Bremen train with a minute to spare. Luckily the team reacts without questioning, and as we gather our breath on the platform and do a quick head and bag count, we are all struck by the absurdity of the situation.
So far we’ve missed a train to Rothenburg, bought an ICE (fast) train from Hamburg to Berlin on the wrong day and ditched a round trip to Bremen. We are doing our best to subsidize the German train system.
The good news is we’ve been able to rebook all that travel at non-exorbitant prices.
And we’ve got another great story to add to the family arsenal.
Bremen really did sounds great though. Let us know how it is of you ever get there.
