Mirror, Mirror

We have so been enjoying our Friday Family Movie Night, I want to record what we watch, and what we think.

Past movies have included:

The Croods
Brave
Rise of The Guardians
The Incredibles

to name a few.

Last night we watched Mirror, Mirror, and though not a classic by any means, we enjoyed it a lot. Julia Roberts obviously had a great time playing the evil queen, and there was just enough thrill, and no gore for our preference.

There is a scene with marionettes that was quite freaky, but we had the lights on, and talked about our feelings about it while it happened. Plus, we love yelling at the screen…which is nice.

The link for the movie takes you to the Common Sense Media website, where I check on movies or books I don’t know about if I want to get some perspective for appropriate age for the children. It is a fantastic resource.

I’m not a big movie watcher, but I underestimated how much pleasure we would all derive from the in-home theater space Buds created for us, and the joy that comes from watching movies together.

We all largely play true to form during the movie viewing, which also makes me smile.

Buds generally falls asleep snuggled under blankets with one or two children bundled up with him.

Monkey and Yessa talk and watch, talk and watch.

Buster has to be close to an adult if the movie has any emotional angst at all, or if not physically touching an adult, he has to jump up and sprint across the room to the other side of the basement to have physical distance from the screen.

Watching Mirror, Mirror, for example, he was perched in my lap the whole movie, unless he was peeking from behind the bookshelf.

I remember doing the same thing as a child, and I’m so glad we watch movies at home where he can have the physical freedom to do what he needs to, and so the girls can talk their way to comfort as needed.

Mirror, Mirror: Smiley faces from us.
