Indoor Water Park!

Indoor Water Park!

I am a sucker for an indoor water park. Especially now that the children are older and more autonomous, water parks are little mini-heavens in my opinion. Add to this our ability to go in the off-times when they are least busy…some of my favorite places.

We had a major change in plans at the start of last week which left us a bit at a loose end, so we decided to try out the Wilderness At The Smokies water park in Eastern Tennessee. We’d never driven over that way before, and we were excited to explore.

A fantastic time was had by all. It’s a tiny indoor water park by our standards, but we largely had the place to ourselves, so we didn’t care.

The Buster is not a slide ride kind of guy, and none of our reassurances would change his mind, so he got his fill in the wave pool and climbing water tower while the girls and I went sliding with new friend Katherine, then they felt comfortable going off without me, and Buster and I hung out.

It was a wonderful two days.

We had a slow drive home in a snow storm, but even that just added to the future family story.

Candy cane stripes look safe, right?!
Candy cane stripes look safe, right?!

Please note the candy cane striped slide in the last picture. It zooms you down the top part of the run, then free-falls you into the giant cone where you careen around the sides until finally being sucked down the intestines to be shot out the end.

I did this slide three times. That alone shows my brave Mommy Heart. The girls loved it…I did it…for them.

I only have video of it, but Monkey got lots of chances to practice her surfing skills, which was really fun. If you look carefully, you’ll notice there are no/few other people apparent in all the pictures. There were maybe 30 other people in the water park, which allowed us to run up and down the slides, and Monkey got lots of chances to surf. She was really getting the hang of it.

We can’t wait to go back with Buds in tow.
