The Shoebox Sends Some Shoeboxes

The Shoebox Sends Some Shoeboxes

Finding volunteer opportunities that fit both our schedule and our personalities is sometimes…interesting. The children and I were happy to see a pile of shoeboxes at our Y for Samaritan’s Purse. You fill the shoeboxes with fun toys, little items of clothing, treats of whatever sort for the age and gender you choose.

The crew and I had a great time at Target choosing fun, semi-inexpensive items to fill up the shoeboxes.

One of the neatest parts is that we then registered them online for a barcode to attach to each one, and we’ll be able to log-in and see where our shoeboxes go. That’s very exciting, and will be a fascinating way for us to learn about the part of the world where the recipients live.

One more reminder of how grateful I am that we have some extra income to use in this way. I’d love to see us find ways to volunteer in ways that are personally gratifying for each of the children, with animals, or the elderly, or helping sort food at the food pantry…and we will, but for now, this was an easy and fulfilling way to reach out to other humans.
