The Great West Coast Tour - Day Twenty-one - Grand Canyon, Here We Come!
We had a relaxed morning, letting the children sleep in as they were able, enjoying some last visits and TV watching with Steve and Faye.
But eventually we were up, packed, and on the road.
We were headed to the Grand Canyon!
Only about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Steve and Faye’s, and we were staying in a hotel with a typical check-in of 3 or 4 in the afternoon, so we moseyed our way along.
Williams, AZ touts itself as the Gateway to the Grand Canyon, so we stopped here in a diner for lunch. Buds had the pleasure of discovering some of the worst yelp reviews he’d ever seen as he hunted for a spot for us to eat.
We walked around in Williams for a bit. We’re on Historic Route 66, and you won’t forget it.
Back on the road after lunch and headed to the Grand Canyon. It’s a two-lane road for the vast majority of the way from Williams to Tusayan, which is the town right outside the park where we were staying. Buds found us a room at the Red Feather Lodge.
A lovely hotel, right in the midst of all the action.
Much like the other National Parks we had visited, there’s a shuttle to drive you around in side the park, and here in Tusayan, there’s a shuttle to take you from various stops in town to the shuttle inside the park. It’s a great system.
We got everyone moved into the hotel, then I was off to explore the shuttle system and get a vision for our next day in the park. We stayed here for two nights to have optimal sunrise and sunset options.
More on my solo adventure next.
